ALFA ACCIAI began operating in Brescia around the mid-fifties, producing
and rolling on an average of 10,000 tons of steel per year. In the 70s, the electric furnaces and the wire rod rolling mill reached
an annual production capacity of about 600,000 tons. |
In the early 1980s, the steel industry underwent a great structural crisis,
but ALFA ACCIAI was able to react by strengthening the rationalisation
of its plant on one hand, and modernising its technology and increasing
its output on the other. The third cycle in this industrial plan began in the late eighties due to the need to integrate the steelworks up and downstream and to extend the market. ALFA ACCIAI therefore diversified its downstream production as follows:
|
To reinforce its presence on the market in southern Italy and the islands,
ALFA ACCIAI took over ACCIAIERIE DI SICILIA in Catania. This company is
the only steel-mill in Sicily. Thanks to recent significant investments,
quality standards and production have increased considerably, and therefore
exports, favoured by its strategic position in the centre of the Mediterranean
area. |
The installation of a third rolling mill enables ALFA ACCIAI to
renew its optimum overall production capacity. This means that all liquid
steel produced is transformed internally. The new mill also introduced
spooled
coil, a product that is innovative in terms of its mechanical
features, dimensions and packaging, no longer cold spooled but hot spooled. Over the years ALFA ACCIAI has integrated the production of quality steels with steel suitable for the building industry, introducing highly advanced technology and reaching ultimate innovation in production processes, conferring excellent mechanical properties, such as High Ductility, to ensure a higher level of safety in buildings. ALFA ACCIAI is looking to the future with confidence, strongly believing in the great industrial reality it has created alone and which constitutes a solid guarantee in the exploitation of future technological resources in facing the eternal challenge of the market. |
