Over the last ten years, ALFA ACCIAI, a leading manufacturer of steel for reinforced concrete, has put great effort into creating innovations in the production process, giving its products particular mechanical properties, including High Ductility, which ALFA ACCIAI was the first to consider an indispensable characteristic for steels used in seismic areas.

The ductility of steels for reinforced concrete is based on two fundamental parameters that must be equally respected :

• elongation under maximum load conditions (Agt)
• tensile/yield strength ratio (ft/fy)

Our products for reinforced concrete guarantee top performance in any type of construction, in any geographical area, offering:

• guaranteed Yield strength with limited maximum value (over strength);
• tensile /yield strength ratio optimised in the minimum and maximum values established in the main design specifications;
• high elongation under maximum load conditions.

These are all features characterising  HIGH DUCTILITY.

ALFA ACCIAI’s continuous commitment to promoting seismically-safe buildings led in 2004 to the foundation of SISMIC, the Italian association of manufacturers of seismic steels for reinforced concrete. In collaboration with other associations, governmental institutions, quality certification bodies, university and other test and inspection departments, SISMIC actively promotes research, development and innovation in the field of reinforcing steels and their production processes. It also promotes an Observatory on the quality and potential of the entire reinforced concrete production chain in Italy, informing users and professionals of the advantages of buildings made of concrete.

As a guarantee of excellence in quality, the members of SISMIC have implemented a voluntary certification system with a quality mark for rebar and coils, electrowelded mesh and girder, all of which are hot-rolled. SISMIC-certified Steel will be available from 1st December 2006.

SISMIC belongs to the CONCRETE COUNCIL, the advisory body that represents the entire reinforced concrete manufacturing chain, together with other important associations, such as AICAP, AITEC, ANEPLA, ASSIAD, ASSOBETON, ASSODIMI, ATE, ATECAP, UCOMESA and other leading industrial and professional associations world-wide.
By raising awareness of the reciprocal requirements of the various players in this industry and developing various forms of cooperation, the Council aims to promote the entire production process for reinforced concrete. The result will be enhanced qualification of the manufacturers and operators involved in the various sectors, particularly in terms of safety and environmental sustainability, and a stable, pro-active alliance with designers and engineers.

As part of the Concrete Council, SISMIC promotes the Concrete Project, which through awareness campaigns and communication aims to promote updating of the items in contract specifications regarding reinforced concrete and its components, in consideration of the various applications and environmental conditions, in the light of new technical standards for buildings. SISMIC is firmly convinced that the quality of reinforced concrete works depend on multiple factors, which means all the elements in the construction chain must be equally strong.
